It's fabulous February and time to enjoy fantastic festivals in Canberra, Perth, Sydney, and Adelaide as well as the biggest ever free cultural festival to be held in Australia - Festival Melbourne2006, held as part of the Commonwealth Games - and let's not forget the National Fiddle Festival on the Hawkesbury, NSW. Festivities for the Chinese Year of the Dog continue and we can reflect on Australia's folklore with some fantastic online journeys.

'Land Marks' - Melbourne
To coincide with the staging of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Indigenous Galleries has been completely rehung with the major exhibition 'Land Marks'. This exhibition identifies important moments in the history of Indigenous art and acknowledges a succession of legendary figures who continue to inspire Indigenous artists today. The exhibition runs from 10 February - 11 June, at The Ian Potter Centre, NGV Australia, Federation Square, Melbourne.

Adelaide's Art Festivals - South Australia
Adelaide Fringe 2006 runs from 24 February to 19 March, while Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts runs 3-19 March. Events range from an Architecture symposium to Writers' and Artists' Weeks to live performances. Both festivals include some free events. See the festival websites for full programs.

Golden Threads Project
Chinese Australian have played an important part in our national heritage. By exploring the Chinese presence in parts of regional NSW, the Golden Threads Project acknowledges and celebrates the work of local museums and Chinese-Australians in collecting and presenting our Chinese history. Their contributions are celebrated here through people, sites, objects and stories.

AIMIA Awards - Adelaide
The 12th Annual AIMIA Awards are on March 3 at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Australia 's interactive media industry awards are for the best in digital content and interactive media. There are 22 categories including best entertainment, interactive TV, finance, eCommerce, sport, advertising, mobile, cross-platform, government, learning, games, lifestyle, children's and more. Finalists are listed on the website.

Launch Pad 2006
Launch Pad is a mentoring program for Australian designers that aims to move design prototypes into production. This year, Launch Pad will hold an exhibition of the finalists in Melbourne as well as displaying them in Sydney at Saturday in Design 2006. Entries should be of prototypes ready for production. Entries close 1 May.
